Today we announced the third annual WorldBlu List of Most Democratic Workplaces 2009! It’s our biggest list to date, with 40 different organizations making the WorldBlu List this year.
The purpose of the WorldBlu List is to acknowledge the most successful organizations in the world that are choosing to operate, not using the traditional, command and control model of business, but a democratic model based on freedom and possibility.
In these challenging economic times, nothing could be more relevant than honoring organizations built on transparency, accountability, integrity, and fairness that give us all a reason to believe that business can truly uphold and model humanity’s highest values.
This year’s WorldBlu List is comprised of for-profit and non-profit organizations from the U.S., Canada, Mexico, England, India, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Malaysia representing such diverse industries as technology, healthcare, telecommunications, media, manufacturing, aerospace and retail, with nearly $12 billion in combined annual sales.
Several organizations sustained their place on the WorldBlu List for the third year in a row. They are 1-800-GOT-JUNK?, AIESEC International, Axiom News, BetterWorld Telecom, Beyond Borders, Continuum, Equal Exchange, Great Harvest Bread Company, Guayaki, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and TakingITGlobal.
Second year winners include BzzAgent, DaVita® (the first and only FORTUNE 500 company on the WorldBlu List), DreamHost, Innovation Partners International, La Siembra Co-operative, MindValley, sweetriot, and Tracer Corporation.
We believe an organization’s longevity on the WorldBlu List is an indicator of its authenticity and sustainability as a democratic organization.
It is our hope that these champions of freedom in the workplace will inspire your own practice of organizational democracy and freedom-centered leadership and help us change the world in the process.
