The Democracy at Work Weekly Tip: Anonymous Questions and Online Polls

logo-bzzagentThis week we will take a look at the company BzzAgent and their democratic practices of fairness and dignity.

Q: What’s a good way to encourage employee suggestions and give feedback on issues?

A: BzzAgent holds bi-weekly meetings where CEO Dave Balter provides updates on the business. Prior to the meeting, anyone can submit an anonymous question that Dave will then answer openly and honestly at the meeting. This practice creates the opportunity for anyone at any level of the organization to voice his or her thoughts and have them taken into consideration. For some decisions at BzzAgent, employees use an online poll to vote on an issue. For example, in response to a major employee satisfaction survey, the company is planning on setting up a “review your boss” evaluation process. Overall, these simple practices give everyone a fair opportunity to express their voice and feel that they are being treated with dignity and respect.
